Plants and Flowers of Pune and India Plumbago Zeylinica Chitrak

Plumbago zeylanica, commonly known as Ceylon Leadwort or Doctorbush, is a species of plumbago with a pantropical distribution.  The species include herbaceous plants and shrubs growing to 0.5–2 m (1.6–6.6 ft) tall.  Plumbago blooms all year long.  The flower calyx has glandular trichomes (hairs), which secrete a sticky mucilage that is capable of trapping and killing insects; In India it is known as Nila Chitrak in Hindi. In Manipuri it is known as Telhidak.  Ayurvedic  texts  mention  five  different  colored  flowers of Chitrak plants namely Red, White, Blue, Black and Yellow.

Uses:
Plumbago has  photochemicals which can be used against mosquito larvae.
