Melastoma is native to Southeast Australia, Southeast Asia and India and there are about 50 species of this plant. Melastoma has a bright purple flower and is very aesthetic. Due to its aesthetics it has been planted all around the world by plant enthusiasts. Melastoma is a shrub and grows up to a height of 5 to 6 feet. Its a a perennial plant. Melastoma plants should be protected in temperatures below 12 deg Celcius (55 F). Also during harsh summer Melastoma must be kept in a shade and the the soil should be kept moist. Once the plant is well rooted give dilute liquid fertilizers for better growth and flowering.
